Fun Vintage Finds

Have I mentioned how much I love church sales? Oh yes, I have. And I hit another jackpot a few weekends ago! I got these two vintage wall hangings for my daughters room for $1 each (looove them!) They go for about $14 each online!
And this Strawberry Shortcake tin (same one I used to play with) for $1 too!

We always need more folding chairs, and I picked up two of these Hamilton Cosco vintage folding chairs for $3 each. These are worth $25-$30 each!
And even though these are not vintage, they were a REALLY good deal! $2 each, including for the DVD boxed set of Back to the Future!
I also LOVE that my friends know how much I love vintage things - my great friend Beth gave me this awesome gift - her childhood record collection! It even came in this rad Pink Panther lunch box!Tons of old kids 45's - Sesame Street and Disney. They are so cool! Now I just need to find a record player!
There were also these read-along books with a record in the back. I remember my sister and I spending HOURS listening and reading along to books like this!

Have I ever told you how much I love church sales? All the little old ladies cleaning out their houses and bringing all their unwanted vintage and retro stuff to be sold for CHEAP? Yes, that is my favorite kind of sale.

My girls (4 and 2) and I went on a Garage Sale mission last weekend. This is the first time I've taken them with me to so many sales and they did GREAT! Our biggest haul was at a local church sale. I got this dresser for $10! I have no idea how much it is worth - maybe $50? It is in SUPER good shape too!

I also picked up this $2 suitcase. I have been wanting to find something to haul my baby bibs around for my business (Hip Violet) and to take with me to wholesale accounts. I think this is it!Happy Thrifting!

Flea Market SCORE!

We visited the Mile High Market last weekend and boy-oh-boy did I score some goodies! One of the first places we stopped we spotted a few boxes of old crafting supplies. After doing some digging we found SO MUCH GREAT STUFF!! I kind of wish I would have just offered to buy everything he had! Or had been able to spend a little more time going through everything! Regardless, I came out way ahead with these great scores!

1. Box o' Vintage Cards
These are SO SO awesome, I can hardly stand it. I also have no idea what I'm going to DO with them since I'm not much of a card sender. I may have to start! Or figure out how to frame them!

2. Box & Tin o' Vintage Buttons (some still on the cards!)
Yes, lots and LOTS of buttons. They are unbelieveably cool. I know vintage buttons are HOT right now and worth a lot of money, so I can't believe my great find! I'm sharing the love - I gave a bunch to my friend Nicole at marmalade creations and I have a few other friends up my sleeve to give them too!

3. Vintage Singer Buttonhole Attachment (worth $10-$20)
It still has the instruction manual and everything!
4. Weird Vintage Jumper/Clown Suit?
I got this because I LOVED the fabric (and it was $1), thinking it was a shirt or SHORT dress. Little did I know it had LEGS! And it is TEENY TINY too! I am either going to keep it for the girls when they get a little older, or take it apart and see if I can make it into something I can wear!
5. Vintage Thread on Wooden Spools
I LOVE these!! I have to figure out something really nifty to do with them.

I got everything above plus 3 vintage aprons and a vintage tablecloth for $15. SCORE!!!

'till next time!

Thrift-o-Rama

I have been staying away from the Thrift Shops lately since I tend to get to many things I don't need (you don't say!), but yesterday I stopped at a few because they were right on my way to where I was going and who can pass up a good thrift shop?

I found ANOTHER Goodwill Outlet on the other side of town...

Vintage Playskool Wooden Blocks
Scored for: $.50
Value: $10+

Kids Retro School Chair
Scored for: $1 each (I have two)
Value: $10+
I also got a kids-sized folding table, a folding "breakfast in bed" tray that will be great for my laptop, a bulletin board for my new office, and a bunch of little random things. $20 for everything! Although next time I have to be more careful about what I buy - since it's by the pound the table may have been more than I usually would have spent, but the lighter stuff probably made up for it!

Vintage Nice N' Neat Kids Shorts
Scored for: $1
Value: $10+
I got these and a pair of Buster Brown pants (tags still on!) for $1 each at an antique store that was closing. I'm sad to see them go - I also got my mushroom canisters from my kitchen from them!

I am going to try to bring my camera with me more, because there are a lot of things that are really cool but I don't need or are way overpriced. Like this super duper cool vintage Disney Toy box. It was very 50's and very cool!
However at $50 I didn't QUITE think it qualified as a score! Still, very cool to see it and I'm sure when it goes on sale someone will grab it!

Happy Thrifting!

Goodwill WHAT?

I had heard the rumors - there was supposedly a new Goodwill Outlet just a short drive from my house but could it be true? Bins and bins of Goodwill castoffs to purchase BY THE POUND? I just had to check it out!
Here it is in all it's glory! For my Denver friends, click here for the address. Yes, huge gigantic bins of stuff (I hesitate to say crap, but a lot of it was). It's a rummage sale - every day. Mostly everything was mixed together as far as clothes go, and then some bins had housewares, toys, books, movies, you name it all mixed together. I did, indeed, find some treasures...

Like this 1945 McCall's Needlework Magazine. It doesn't have a cover but the pictures and ads inside are SO COOL!! I am really thinking about framing a few of them for my new studio/office/craft room downstairs.

I also found this Needlecraft book from 1975 (I have a weakness for vintage crafting books and magazines!).
Among other finds (a Barbie bike helmet, 3 VCR movies, 4 other kids books, some Coors suspenders and a few random toys) I also found this Polly Pocket playset, and this Barbie playset. Both had all parts and were in great condition.

It's hard to say how much each thing cost, because after all was said and done my grand total was $10. I can't wait to go back!

The following things were picked up at random spots in the last few months...

1960's Lipstick Holder
Scored for: $3
Value: $50+

Vintage Kids Table and Chair Set

Scored for: $25
Value: ?
I recovered the chairs which had several holes in them, and the table which was really faded and had lots of marker/crayon that I couldn't get off.

SeaWees Coral Doll (and baby, not pictured)
Scored for: $4
Value: $10+
My sister and I used to play with Sea Wee's ALL THE TIME! We have both been looking for them forever since we now both have little girls of our own that we are sure would love them too. I finally found Coral and her baby at a local antique shop. Unfortunately about 10 seconds after we got home we lost the baby, but I know she is somewhere around here!

*** UPDATE ***
Mer-baby was FOUND! She was in a boot by the front door. Of course!

Happy Thrifting!

And so it begins...

It all started a few months ago when I spotted a German-made Kettler tricycle at a local thrift store for $7. I knew they were expensive, but I didn't know exactly how much. I grabbed it, brought it home, and was pleasantly surprised to see that they sell for nearly $200 new. Yowsa!

Here is what it looks like:
THEN I found ANOTHER one a week or so later at a different thrift shop for $5 and THIS one had the push bar so you can push them around in case your little one's don't know how to pedal yet. I kept one and sold the other one, making back my money x6. YAY ME! I was so excited I posted it on Facebook for all my friends to ohhh and ahh over my thrifty prowess.

The truth is, I've ALWAYS loved rummaging through thrift shops trying to find treasures. But lately I seem to really be finding some "SCORES!" and instead of constantly posting my finds on Facebook, I decided to start this little old blog. I have no idea how often I'll post, but I would love it if you would check back and see what fun things I have found! Including these recent gems...

Vintage Lamb Planter
Scored for: $3
Value: $10-$15
I just love this little guy - it was in rough shape when I got it but with the help of a Magic Eraser it is shiney and new :) It is currently residing in my kitchen cabinet with some other treasures.

Vintage Kitex Ski Suit
Scored for: $3
Value: $50?
Close-up of rad silver lightening bolt decoration
Seriously? A WHITE snow/ski suit with silver lightning bolts? SOLD! I was hoping to use it to go play in the snow with my girls, but unfortunately this awesome find does not fit me at all (I can't even get it zipped! Bummer!). Sold to my fellow thrift store friend Kimm who will wear it with pride!

Crocheted Cup Holder with Handle
Scored for: $1
Value: 0
FINALLY! The answer to the age-old question "What do I do when I'm drinking an incredibly hot substance out of a plastic Solo cup?" Why, you just slip your cup into this most lovely yellow, brown, orange and white handcrafted beauty and sip away!

By the way, one of my friends is getting this for a late Christmas present. I know you're all going to be waiting by your mailboxes in hopes that it's YOU!

Playmobile Fairy Princess Set
Scored for: $5.89
Value: $70.00
SCORE!!! Seriously, I just about jumped up and down when I found this! I kept hearing rumors of all the good deals you could get on toys after the holidays as people cleared out the old to make room for the new, but this is a NEW set! It was opened previously, but all the parts are there (including the sticker sheet!) and it doesn't look like it was ever played with. Yee haw! I'm saving this for Christmas next year!

I hope you liked the first installment of my blog! If you have a Thrift Shop Score you'd like to share, send an e-mail to ThriftShopScores at Gmail.com.

Later!
